everything you need to know about the extension services we provide you at mane habitat!

extension services are a luxury service;
price point varies based on color, length and amount needed for desired results. though we always try our hardest to stick to our clients budgets when it comes to other types of services, extension services work a bit differently. we do not have control over the cost of hair and the install service rate is set at a flat rate per row. we will always give our professional opinion on what is necessary for results wanted, but do not have flexibility to change pricing for these services. we can however offer an alternative option for length and bulk, if the original total is not within budget.

unfortunately, we do not install hair that is not purchased through our stylists.

if you are interested in extensions but your stylist does not offer the service (both within our studio or at another salon), please feel free to reach out to one of our extension experts to get all of your questions answered! though we our extension experts would LOVE to do your color, it is not a necessity in order for you to enjoy our extension installs!

weft extension

INFINITY / GENIUS / hybrid WEFT

ultra-thin, seamless, and customizable hand-tied-style wefts that can be cut without unraveling due to the type of base the hair is attached too. They lie flat against the scalp, making them very natural-looking, but they still require gentle, consistent care to stay soft, shiny, and tangle-free. These wefts are stacked ontop of eachother, typically seeing 2-6 wefts sandwiching 1 row of beaded foundation, with the average head holing 2-3 rows. with good at home care and routine up-keep on maintenance, our clients see a life span of 8 - 14 months! beads are hidden with this type of extension.

HAND TIED WEFT

everything our infinity/genuis/hybrid wefts offer, with a slight thinner base which may sit more a tad comfortably depending on the client its installed on. this style extension is pre-cut sections and cannot be cut at the base. life span of this hair is typically 8 - 10 months! beads are hidden with this type of extension.

Machine / volume weft

the thickest base structure extension of them all. this weft is good for those with extremely thick hair. less flexibility on the scalp compared to other styles. this style is able to be cut along the base and is typically thick enough to comfortably have 1 weft on each row, typically with no stacking. life span of this hair is typically 8-12 month. due to the base of this extension, beads are typically visible on the underside of the weft.

brushing

  • Use a loop brush or soft bristle brush designed for extensions.

  • Hold the base of your wefts while brushing to avoid tugging on the seams.

  • Start at the ends and work up to the roots.

  • Brush morning, night, and before showering.

  • Avoid brushing wet hair aggressively (it’s weaker and can stretch/snaps the bonds).

  • Use leave in conditioner/detangler prior to gently brushing.

styling

  • Use heat protectant spray before using flat irons or curlers.

  • Keep heat below 350°F (180°C) if possible.

  • Avoid putting heat directly on the weft seam or beads.

  • Be cautious with tight ponytails or buns, constant tension can loosen the wefts especially on the corners.

  • Oil extension ends every morning + evening to ensure longevity of your hair investment!

    * TIP * want curls like the salon? make sure you invest in a long barrel curing iron. The bigger the barrel, the bigger the curl. We primarily use 1in - 1.5in curling irons in the salon. We love the bioionic curling iron, and we sell it at the salon - cheaper than the shelves.

washing

  • Wash every 3–5 days, or as needed depending on buildup.

  • If you work out or sweat often, rinse gently in between full washes with just water or a sulfate-free cleansing conditioner.

    * TIP * got a hot date but you don’t have time to wash and style it all? pull your extensions back in a tie and leave your natural hair on top out. Wash the top alone and blow-dry + style as normal!

Shampoo & Conditioner

  • Choose sulfate-free, paraben-free, and extension-safe products.

  • Avoid protein-heavy or keratin products as they can make extensions brittle.

  • Focus shampoo on your scalp, and let suds rinse through the lengths.

  • Apply conditioner from mid-shaft to ends, avoiding the weft seam.

Washing Steps

  1. * ALWAYS * BRUSH + DETANGLE BEFORE YOU WASH!

  2. Wet hair gently, don’t flip your head upside down or scrub aggressivly.

  3. Lather shampoo gently in downward strokes, don’t forget to get between each weft! * DO THIS STEP TWICE *

  4. Rinse thoroughly.

  5. Apply conditioner (avoid root area), then rinse again with cool water.

  6. Gently squeeze out water, avoid rubbing or twisting too tightly.

  7. Use a leave-in conditioner / detangler and brush gently.

DRYING & STYLING

  • Pat dry with a microfiber towel.

  • Blow dry roots first (especially weft area) to prevent mildew or matting.

  • You can air dry mid-lengths and ends after roots are fully dry.

  • Avoid sleeping on damp hair as it can cause tangling, pulling, bead slipping + matting.

MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENT

  • Move-up or reinstallation every 6–10 weeks, depending on hair growth + stylist providing the service.

  • We will pre-book this appointment to ensure a healthy grow out.

  • Color is not included in price of these appointments, so please be sure to mention it at time of booking if you feel you are due for a color refresh!

  • Extensions are able to be melted, low lighted and glossed (sometimes at an additional cost) but unfortunately they cannot be lightened.

  • During your maintenance appointment, your stylist will check for:

    • Bead slippage or loose sections

    • Matting near scalp

    • Condition of the weft seam

what to avoid

  • No oils or heavy conditioners near the scalp or bead/weft line.

  • Don’t use purple shampoo too frequently, and only if necessary. it can dry out and stain extensions.

  • Avoid chlorine and salt water, they cause dryness and tangling.

    • If swimming, coat hair with leave-in conditioner and wear a swim cap or braid it tightly.

  • Don’t sleep or work out with wet extensions.

  • Absolutely never use regular sunscreen, instead opt for a mineral based sunscreen. The avobenzone ingredient in regular sunscreen is notorious for turning extensions orange. Though its not completely impossible, it is extremely hard to remove this orange tone and can leave your extensions feeling rough.
